Banks in Central and Eastern Europe are driving digital transformation with AI, mobile banking, and customer-focused innovation.

In the CEE, Bank of Georgia (BOG) excels in digital-customer acquisition and engagement, thanks to its AI-powered ecosystem. BOG’s super-app has over 1.67 million active users each month, making it the most popular financial app in the country. The bank also offers sCoolApp for financial education and emphasizes customer-centric services with a help desk and AI chatbot. AI innovations like Ads Manager and a gamification engine are fueling digital growth, as well as boosting loyalty and satisfaction.

Poland’s Bank Millennium prioritizes mobile banking, reporting more than a billion app logins in 2024 by 2.65 million mobile app users, of whom 94% were active digital customers. The bank’s strategy for 2025-28 focuses on combining technology with a human touch. It continuously enhances security through measures like additional login authorization, trusted browser options, fraud detection, and educational campaigns across various channels and targeted audiences. A security hub was added to the mobile app this year.

Slovakia’s Tatra banka approaches innovation as a means to offer new products that simplify banking and improve accessibility. Recent innovations include the TABI children’s mobile app for financial literacy, tatrapay+ for diverse payment methods, installment sales, and dynamic payment orders for multi-currency international payments. Tatra emphasizes digital transformation, reporting mobile banking usage over 83%, high app ratings, and a significant percentage of digital product sales completed without human interaction. The bank’s vision is to provide fully contactless services and expand its open API portfolio for partner integration, supported by a dedicated digital division established in 2018.
