The Nigerian Senate has formally declined Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s request to resume legislative duties.

Akpabio-led Senate insisted that the suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan cannot return because her matter is still under consideration in the court.

Appeal Court’s verdict to determine Natasha’s return – Senate

The Godswill Akpabio-led Senate stated that her six-month suspension remains in force pending the outcome of a Court of Appeal case instituted against the Senate by Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduagha.

In a letter signed by Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, the Senate acknowledged Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notification of her intended return on September 4, 2025, the date she claimed marked the end of her suspension.

However, the Senate clarified that her suspension took effect on March 6, 2025, and emphasised that the matter is still sub judice (under judicial consideration).

In the letter made available to Legit.ng on Tuesday, September 9, the Senate insisted that no administrative action can be taken until the Court of Appeal delivers a verdict.

Senate to review Natasha’s suspension after court’s verdict

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended in March 2025, following a Senate resolution.

But the letter stated that the Senate would only review her suspension after the court’s pronouncement.

“The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the letter read.

Why Senator Natasha was suspended

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian Senate revealed that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was not suspended over her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Red Chamber noted that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension stemmed from acts of gross misconduct of the senate standing order was affirmed by the Federal High Court Abuja which promoting her appeal against the federal high court ruling.

However, the embattled senator has consistently claimed that her suspension was a direct consequence of her petition accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.

Natasha will resume Senate she returns from London – Lawyer

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, will return to the National Assembly later this month after completing her six-month suspension.

The Kogi state senator’s lawyer, Victor Giwa, disclosed that the senator, currently on vacation in London, had already made plans to resume plenary alongside her colleagues when the Senate reconvenes on Tuesday, September 23.

“Actually, she’s ready to resume her term. She’s in London. Everything is in place, and the six months have expired. The only thing left is her resumption,” Giwa said.
