In a statement by the Secretary of the Council, Adegbe Uloko, the IATC said the reports were mischievous and misleading.

The council had last week embargoed the conferment of chieftaincy titles in its Intermediate area. However, during the Igede Agba celebration, the Adiharu of Igede conferred titles on selected personalities in alleged violation of the order.

Controversy erupts among stakeholders

The development sparked controversy, leading to accusations, counteraccusations, and disagreements among stakeholders and leaders of the Idoma and Igede-speaking tribes in Benue South District.

The IATC clarified that neither the President nor the SGF was included in the list of honourees at the event.

Council directed chief to step down from conferment

The council stated that it had directed the First-Class Chief, HRH Ero Oga, to step down from the conferment of titles on August 19, 2025, and reinforced the directive with an official declaration on September 2, 2025.
