FCT, Abuja – The Nigeria Customs Service has released a list of ten things applicants should know about the computer-based test (CBT) exams.
Shortlisted candidates are to sit for a computer-based test for the ongoing recruitment exercise.

As reported by The Punch, the NCS listed all the does and don’t in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Customs recruitment: 10 things applicants must know
1. Test will be online
The CBT would be conducted virtually, allowing candidates to write the exam from any location with reliable internet access.
Candidates without personal devices could make use of internet-enabled computer centres.
2. Mobile phones not allowed
Customs warned that only laptops and desktops that have webcam capability and allow full-screen display will be accepted.
The use mobile phones for the exam is totally forbidden.
3. Facial verification required
Candidates must carry out a mandatory facial recognition process during login.
NCS said candidate faces must match the details already provided during registration.
4. Avoid untidy appearance
NCS advised candidates to ensure their facial presentation is clear and uncluttered.
Customs warned that “clumsy facial looks” might hinder the smooth operation of the verification system.
5. Sensitive to noise and movement
Customs cautioned candidates to sit still and maintain focus throughout the test. It disclosed that the CBT application is programmed to detect unusual behaviour and could log out those who make excessive body movements
6. No distractions allowed
NCS also warned that whispering or background disturbances may be picked up by the system and interpreted as malpractice.
Hence, the service urged candidates against writing the exam in noisy environments.
7. One window at a time
Applicants are warned against switching from one window to another. NSC said it could be flagged by the application as an attempt to cheat.
The service advised applicants to remain on a single screen throughout the exam.
8. Pre-test before main exam
The NCS said applicants must have a compulsory practice session two days before the actual test to help applicants to understand how the application works and reduce errors on the exam day.
9. Two links for candidates
Applicants would receive two separate links: one to access the pre-test and another for the main CBT on a different date.
10. Extra test for Superintendent cadre
Only candidates who applied for the Superintendent cadre (Level 8) would undertake an additional CBT in the next phase of the recruitment.

Customs recruitment: Step-by-step guide
Recall that the Nigeria Customs Service urged all shortlisted candidates to validate their email addresses to ensure smooth communication during its ongoing recruitment process.
Over 286,000 applicants have advanced to the Computer-Based Test phase, with official updates now restricted to verified email channels.
The directive, announced via the NCS’s official X page, warns candidates to ignore fraudulent messages and rely solely on the recruitment portal for instructions.
How to apply for Nigeria customs jobs
Legit.ng earlier reported that the recruitment exercise announced by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is for qualified persons with the required qualifications.
Legit.ng recalls that the fresh recruitment exercise is to fill vacancies in various positions like the Superintendent, Inspector, and Customs Assistant cadres. According to the NSC, the agency said it plans to recruit 3,927 officers in 2025.
The application process opens on 27 December 2024 and will close on 2 January 2025.
