Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president of Nigeria, has met with the former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, adding that their discussion centred on the “state of the nation” and also looking forward to collaborating with him to “redeem the current situation.”
Atiku announced his visit to the former governor’s residence in Abuja in a social media post on Wednesday, September 17. He has been at the forefront of the opposition leaders seeking to sack President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

The former vice president, who came second in the 2023 presidential election under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is leading a coalition of opposition leaders to come together under one platform against Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Lamido criticises Atiku-led coalition
However, some political observers, including Lamido, have criticised the coalition for a lack of too many ambitious opposition leaders, including Atiku, Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, who have all declared their interest to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The coalition leaders recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their political platform ahead of the 2027 election. Legit.ng recalled that Lamido was present at the event but insisted that he remained a member of the PDP.
Meanwhile, Lamido has urged the PDP to put its house in order, while tipping former President Goodluck Jonathan to be the party’s flagbearer, adding that he remains the only southern candidate who can compete with President Tinubu in the next cycle of elections.
