Four ways to get extra use out of old T-shirts and save some money

CLEARING out your wardrobe is satisfying but before binning old T-shirts, have a rethink.

There are plenty of ways to get extra use out of tired tops and help your wallet at the same time.

Follow these tips . . .

DYE IT: Give a stained or faded top a fresh lease of life by dying it a darker colour.

You can get Dylon hand dye from around £3-£4 at stores including Dunelm and Wilko.

It is great for items that may just have a few stains but are otherwise in good condition.

RECYCLE FOR CASH: Even if clothes are ripped or damaged, they can be bagged up and recycled for some cash.

Drop a bag of clean pre-loved clothing or textiles at a River Island store and you will be rewarded with a voucher for £5.

There is a similar scheme in place at H&M but you need to be a part of its membership scheme.

Minimum spends are attached to vouchers at both stores.

GET CREATIVE: You can give an old T-shirt to children and let them have fun creating some new designs.

A pack of ten fabric markers is £4 from Hobbycraft or fabric glue is from £3.50 on Amazon.

They can draw their own designs or stick on sequins, pom poms or any other craft bits you have lying around.

You could also turn it into a dress-up item if you feel inspired, by drawing a superhero logo on the front, for instance.

Or cut some slits at the bottom for a fringed look that could work for a mummy or zombie fancy dress.

RAG TIME: Rather than spending money on cloths for cleaning, an old cotton top cut up can do the job just as well.

Use for anything from dusting to cleaning the bathroom.
