FORMER England international David Nugent has been named player coach at eighth-tier club Anstey Nomads.
Nugent, 40, initially rolled credits on his playing career in 2021 following a loan stint at Tranmere Rovers from Preston North End.
However, the striker decided to come out of retirement for non-league football and will start his new job with the Nomads on Saturday for the home game against Loughborough Students at Davidsons Homes Park.
Anstey Nomads announced: “David Nugent joins Anstey Nomads!
“The former Leicester City and England international joins as a player-coach and is available for Saturdays fixture vs Loughborough Students!
“Welcome Nugent.”
Fans were absolutely elated upon hearing the news as they stormed social media in excitement.
One fan tweeted: “Nuuuuuuuge!”
Another commented: “Haha, that’s nuts. What a signing.”
A third wrote: “You love to see it.”
This fan said: “Finally some good news.”
And that one posted: “Get in!”
Nugent went through quite a nomadic career as he also played for the likes of Bury, Portsmouth, Burnley, Middlesbrough, Derby County and of course Leicester.
The centre-forward spent four years with the Foxes where he amassed 59 goals and 28 assists in 180 appearances until his departure in 2015.
The player-coach also competed for England once in 2007 during a Euro 2008 qualifier in Andorra where he scored.
