Co-owner Ged Mason revealed afterwards that £45,560 prize money will be going towards the Ricky Hatton Foundation in a perfect tribute.

He told Racing TV: “Absolutely delighted that we can help in some ways in Ricky’s memory and legacy.

“The family have set up the foundation and the proceeds kick it off today.”

Paul Speak, Hatton’s friend and long-term manager, was present at the races to watch the success.

He watched on in great delight as jockey Freddie Gingell rode into first place.

He added: “He could do it and he did.

“Hopefully he’s up there looking down and smiling at us.

“As we say, nobody needs to fight alone, there are plenty of people with problems.

“You just have to share your problems with other people and hopefully the foundation is a vehicle for people to do that.”
