Snow mapped as Met Office reveals where first cold snap of winter will hit in UK next WEEK

THE Met Office where the first cold snap of winter is due to hit the UK next week, in the wake of Storm Claudia.

Currently, he Met Office has issued amber and yellow weather warnings for much of England and Wales as around six inches of rain is expected in some parts, causing flooding along with 70mph winds.

Northern parts of Scotland have already seen some snow fall as the storm brings a cold snap in its wake.

Those colder conditions are forecast to become more widespread in the early part of next week.

The Met Office said: “Sleet and snow showers possible, mainly focused towards north facing coasts and hills.”

Those bitter conditions are expected to move south as the week progresses, with the temperatures starting to cool on Tuesday.

It’s long-range forecast, covering November 18 to 27, says: “Colder conditions, already affecting the far north of the UK are likely to extend south to affect all parts through the early part of the period.”

The weather forecaster’s map shows the area around Dumfries, the grey area seen above, is likely to get snow on Wednesday.

There could also be some hill snow in parts of the west, according to the Met Office.

Some northern regions will likely see temperatures plummet to a brisk -1C as chilly winds blow in from the west.

Southern parts are likely to be spared a sprinkling of the white stuff but many parts are predicted to get the “first frosts of the season”.

As November continues the outlook becomes “increasingly uncertain” but the Met Office says the trend is towards more “changeable” conditions with the likelihood of some rain and showers in places along with the possibility of some hill snow at times in the north.

Temperatures overall are likely to return to near average for this time of year.

Meanwhile, Brits are gearing up to face Storm Claudia today.

Claudia could result in travel disruptions, power cuts, and flooding, according to the Met Office.

The AA has advised against travelling in the “hazardous weather”, saying: “Safety comes first. Conditions may change quickly, so stay updated and make sure you’re prepared before you travel.”

Rainy conditions are set to be “exacerbated” by strong easterly winds, as well as thunderstorms later today, with the Met Office announcing a yellow rain warning is now in force across much of central and southern England and Wales.
