As noted by CAF Online, Nigeria were first on the front foot, but the Sudanese soaked up the pressure and hit the Eric Chelle-led side hard with their ruthlessness.
The third group match against Congo Republic, which played 1-1 against Senegal in their other game, will be a mere formality as it will not change the fortune of Nigeria.
The other three teams can still qualify, with Sudan and Senegal set to clash in a top-of-the-table decider, while Nigeria could help Congo’s cause with three points.
According to thenff.com, the loss is a joint record for Nigeria in the competition after a similar scoreline against Morocco in the final in 2018.
Eric Chelle reacts to loss against Sudan
Eric Chelle turned up at his post-match conference visibly distraught and yet again said that his team lost because of too many mistakes.
“The game started, and for 20 minutes the players maintained focus. We scored a goal, and after that, we made lots of mistakes and we gave up the game in the second half,” he said
“Four goals, four mistakes, this is the analysis. It hurts, it’s tough. It’s our fault, and I think this is the reality.”
He admitted that his plans were altered after some players left to join clubs outside the country, thus making them ineligible for selection for CHAN.

“When we selected the players to come for CHAN, this was not the same group actually. 5-8 players left the camp or never joined the camp; they left to go to another league. The team was not like we imagined,” he added.
“The reality is that we selected the best players in the league, but we can not play some games like that, because we made a lot of mistakes in these two games.
“The goal against Senegal was a mistake. The first two goals today were mistakes. We can’t make such at this level of the competition. We need more focus.”
