Dangote Cement Plc has reiterated its dedication to improving road safety and operational effectiveness by continuously training and retraining its truck drivers across Nigeria.
At the company’s 2025 Annual Drivers’ Retreat, themed by the Dangote Group, Managing Director Arvind Pathak announced that more than 2,000 aspiring drivers have successfully completed the company’s recruitment process in the past two months alone.

The company has recently faced intense criticism following allegations that some of its drivers were responsible for multiple road accidents across the country.
Tragic incidents in recent weeks include the crushing of the leg of the sister of Big Brother Naija winner, Phyna, about two weeks ago, and another collision just a week later that claimed the lives of three passengers.
Dangote Cement reaffirms commitment to driver training
A major training session was recently held at the company’s Ibese Plant in Ilaro, Ogun State, drawing participation from over 900 drivers.
Another large-scale retraining program is scheduled for next week at the Obajana facility in Kogi State, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to driver development.
Pathak emphasised that all newly hired drivers must undergo a thorough and multi-step screening process.
This includes possession of a valid Class G driver’s license, in-depth background checks for both drivers and their guarantors, and comprehensive health assessments.
These medical checks cover vision testing, blood pressure monitoring, BMI evaluation, blood sugar levels, and screening for drug and alcohol use.
The Cement GMD stated:
“Other recruitment screening covers usage within a three-month detection window, ensuring identifying any history of substance use before employment, completion of a two-week intensive training programme, which consists of twelve safety modules, practical driving assessments, and written examinations.”
He said only those who meet all established criteria are certified to operate vehicles under the Dangote Group fleet.
Dangote Cement sets new standard for driver safety
As a major player in the cement industry with a substantial number of trucks on the road, Pathak noted that safety is central to the company’s operations.
He explained that the annual retreat serves to reinforce Dangote’s core values and keep drivers aligned with the company’s Absolute Safer Road Policy.
Pathak also reaffirmed Dangote Cement’s commitment to ethical practices, road safety, and transparency.
He highlighted the firm’s collaboration with law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police, to support investigations and adopt safety recommendations aimed at improving public safety on Nigerian roads.
Dangote receives 4,000 CNG trucks
