ANTHONY Joshua paid an emotional visit to his friends in a Nigerian funeral home after making a “miraculous recovery” from a fatal road crash.
The former world heavyweight boxing champ, 36, escaped from Monday’s fatal crash in Nigeria with no serious injuries, a source told The Sun.
He has since been discharged from the Duchess International Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, and visited the funeral home where pals Latz and Sina’s bodies are being held.
What we know so far…
The private hospital where AJ was being treated has been named as the best in Nigeria for the past two years and offers 24-hour one-on-one care.
Two of Joshua’s closest friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, were killed on impact when the SUV they were travelling in collided with a truck on the side of notorious Lagos-Ibadan highway.
AJ has now paid a visit to the funeral home where both of his pals’ bodies are being held, The Sun understands.
The former heavyweight champion was supported by his mother during the emotional trip to see his pals.
He was previously being comforted in hospital by his mum after narrowly escaping the tragic crash with his life.
Despite rumours, tests have revealed the boxing legend miraculously suffered no serious physical injuries.
However, fears have now been raised that the grief and mental scarring from the road tragedy could put potential mega-fights next year in doubt.
His family have spoken out after the horror crash, with his uncle Robert saying: “We have not been allowed to see him, but from information given by authorities, he is responding to treatment.
“The incident shook our family deeply. Though our son, Anthony, is alive, two of his friends, who came to celebrate with us, lost their lives.
“This is a serious tragedy, not only for our family, but for Ogun State, Nigeria, and the world at large.
“We are deeply saddened that two people very close to Anthony did not survive. Our hearts are with their families.”
On Monday, a devastated Anthony Joshua said “I feel pain all over my body” after the high-speed horror smash which killed two of his pals.
Sources close to the British fighter told The Sun that AJ had searing pain in his knees and cried out in agony as he was rescued from the wreckage.
AJ and his two pals were travelling to Sagamu, in south west Nigeria, to spend time with Joshua’s family and celebrate the New Year, when tragedy struck.
Ayodele and Ghami died instantly after their Lexus SUV slammed into a parked lorry on the notoriously dangerous Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun.
After being rushed to hospital and treated, Anthony Joshua has now been discharged from hospital.
The sporting legend will continue his recovery in Nigeria with his mother by his side.
Latz and Sina’s bodies are set to be repatriated to the UK, The Sun understands.
