Following their pre-season friendly victory yesterday, Mikel Arteta addressed whether there would be any more transfer activity.
“Let’s see what happens in terms of where the squad is in the next few weeks, but we are actively looking at options, as well there are a few players maybe that they have to leave as well so we’ll be open to see what happens.
“I think having everybody involved at their best, that’s what we want and then we’re going to have to start with 11 players and other players are going to have to impact the game.
“At the end they’re going to have to earn it on that pitch with every day, with their behaviour, the quality and the connection that they show with the team and it’s exactly what we need.”
Gunners circling on Magpies’ transfer
Newcastle have had a torrid transfer window, with many of their targets opting for different destinations.
Rumours circulate that The Gunners are waiting in the wings to jump in to capture Malick Thiaw if The Magpies cannot conclude the signing.

Arsenal fans were confused to see Max Dowman left out of yesterday’s Emirates Cup squad.
Mikel Arteta: “Let’s see how it goes. Let’s go into Saturday, into the break as well. He needs a little break because he hasn’t had any holidays really.
“So, in the next few days, he’s going to have a break, which I think he needs. And then, following the week, he’ll be ready again to go.”
