WIZZ Air is axing all of its flights to a popular European city.

The airline announced on social media that it will cease operations early next year to Vienna, as shuts down its base in the Austrian capital.
Wizz Air revealed the news on X following a “strategic review“, and for Brits, this will affect thousands of passengers.
Currently the airline offers two daily flights from London Gatwick to Vienna, decreasing to one per day in the winter months and into March next year.
Flights have been scheduled up until August, 2026, according to Skyscanner, so it will affect thousands of passengers.
The post said: “We are ceasing operations in Vienna. After a strategic review, we are gradually closing our base in Vienna.
“Two aircraft and two routes, Bilbao and London Gatwick, will be withdrawn on 26 October 2025, with all three aircraft and all other routes ceasing on 15 March 2026.”
The airline then advised that passengers with bookings to Vienna after that time will be contacted by Wizz Air.
The employees affected will be “supported with relocation opportunities and alternative roles”.
A Wizz Air spokesperson told Sun Travel: “We can confirm that Wizz Air will gradually close its Vienna base following a strategic review of its operations and fleet allocation.
“Wizz Air continuously monitors the performance of its routes to allow for the most popular destinations to have the lowest possible fares.”
“Passengers with bookings on affected flights beyond the route suspension dates will be contacted directly to obtain a full refund in cash, WIZZ credits or rebook onto an alternative Wizz Air flight.”
Wizz Air had been operating the London Gatwick to Vienna route since March 2022.
The cost-friendly airline offered the route at a low price with one-way tickets starting from around £25-£45.
Brits can still fly to Vienna with other airlines like British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet.
The Gatwick to Vienna route isn’t the only one that Wizz Air has cancelled this year.
In July, the airline axed routes to Budapest from Liverpool and Glasgow.
The Liverpool-Budapest route will end from October 24, followed by the Glasgow-Budapest route, which will end on October 25.
The Liverpool flight route launched back in 2016 and has since been joined by other flights from the airport including Gdansk, Katowice, Bucharest and Warsaw.
The Glasgow to Budapest route replaced Edinburgh, and launched back in 2023.
Now Brits will have to travel to Edinburgh to fly to Budapest, with Ryanair who continue to offer direct flights to the city.
However the airline has announced it will be starting some new routes from next summer.
Brits will be able to get some sun in Bilbao, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Seville from March 29, 2026 – all departing from London Luton airport.
