Alleged Trump’s threat on Tinubu fact-checked
In the bid to fight misinformation ahead of the poll, Dubawa fact-checked the claim by a Facebook user, @Onyee Arangee, that the United States President Donald Trump has expressed his interest in the poll and that he would ensure that President Bola Tinubu lost his re-election.
The video was three minutes long and the man repeatedly made the claim that Trump does not like President Tinubu, arguing that the West are the one controlling the politics of Nigeria.
Many have taken to the comment section and shared a variety of perspectives about the topic. Dubawa fact-checked the claim, and no reputable media reported any of Trump’s statements concerning President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Also, a review of public statements made by Trump as well as his political activities indicated that the US president has focused on immigration policies, economic debates and the ongoing legal battles in the United States.
Trump speaks on illegal immigrants from Nigeria
Trump has only talked about illegal immigrants from Nigeria in the US, but has never talked about the country or its elections.
At the same time, this was not the first time the US president would be drawn into Nigeria’s political debate through fake reports. A fake video once circulated on social media suggesting that Trump spoke about the administration of President Tinubu, but it was later discovered that the video was an old NBC interview, which was manipulated.
This is coming as opposition leaders in Nigeria are gathering to form a coalition to sack President Tinubu in the 2027 elections. The opposition leaders in the coalition, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers state, have all declared their intention to contest in the election.
