Dozens of notable actors, directors, writers, and the like were remembered in the segment, but viewers noticed that several prominent names weren’t included.
Film star Gene Hackman was noticeably missing from the tribute, just months after his death.
The Mississippi Burning star died in February at the age of 95.
News of his death circulated hours before the 2025 Oscars, in which he received a special tribute led by friend, Morgan Freeman.
However, fans expected that he’d still be acknowledged at the Emmys and were surprised when his photo did not appear on screen.
“Where was Gene Hackman in the In Memoriam?” one person asked on X.
“Did I miss GENE HACKMAN? Was he included??” another echoed.
Also, Jonathan Joss, known for his roles in King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, and Lynne Marie Stewart, who starred in Charlie’s Mom and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, were excluded from the list.
Jonathan died in June at 59 after he was involved in a shooting in San Antonio.
Lynne’s death also devastated fans, as she lost her battle with cancer at 78 years old.
“So the emmy’s just left out jonathan joss for the emmy in memorium ?????? disrespectful and cruel,” someone else wrote.
“Did I miss it or did the Emmys not include Jonathan Joss in the in memoriam…” another wondered.
“Did i blink during it or did they forget (maliciously or not) jonathan joss?” questioned a third.

The awards show tribute often stirs up backlash as fans have repeatedly complained about the list being selective.
Shortly after the tribute, Everybody Loves Raymond alum Brad Garrett joked that he feared he wouldn’t “make the cut” when the time came for him to be memorialized.
He made the remark during an onstage bit with his former co-star Ray Romano while commemorating the 30th anniversary of the sitcom.
Ray assured Brad he’d be on the list if “it’s a slow year,” prompting laughter throughout the room.
