Fani-Kayode Speaks on Rumoured Interest in NFF Chairman Position

FCT, Abuja – Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation, on Thursday, September 11, has said claims that he has an interest in being the chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are “fake”.

According to Fani-Kayode, he has no interest in football.

Fani-Kayode uninterested in NFF role

Legit.ng reports that the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) changed its name to the NFF in 2008. Abuja-headquartered NFF is the current governing body for football in Nigeria.

‘FFK’, as Fani-Kayode is fondly called, wrote on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, September 11:

“It has been brought to my attention that fake quotes are being attributed to me by various unknown blogs claiming that I have an interest in being Chairman of the NFA and that I have now decided to step down from the race to support someone else.

“This is all fake news. I know nothing about the NFA, I have no interest in the NFA or who leads it, I have no interest in football and thankfully I have not been approached or nominated for such a position by anyone and if I had I would have respectfully declined.

“I am not a footballer and I could not care less who the NFA Chairman is or will be.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) asserted that “the whole thing is deeply insulting”.

Legit.ng reports that the current NFF president is Ibrahim Gusau, a sports administrator from Zamfara state, who has served as the boss of the Nigerian football governing body since 2022. His tenure is expected to expire in 2026.

NFF reacts to Boniface’s joke

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the NFF reacted to Victor Boniface’s now-deleted post that he has retired from the national team after the 1-1 draw against Russia.
