A BAG of dishwasher tablets can easily set you back almost £15.

So why don’t you try and make your own?
One savvy woman has shared the genius way she whips up her own dishwasher powder – and it costs her less than a fiver for enough for 45 washes.
“Would you believe me if I told you you could make your own dishwasher tablets for a fraction of the price?” Emily said in a video on her TikTok page.
“£4.70 to be exact!”
She began by heading to her local Home Bargains, where she picked up a box of soda crystals – of which she needed to use half for the mixture, meaning it cost her just 90p.
She also grabbed a some bicarbonate of soda, for £1.19, and two packs of the Elbow Grease cup cleaner, for 99p each.
Once home, she put both packs of the cup cleaner, the full box of bicarb and 500g of the soda crystals.
“Mix this up, this is going to clean your machine as well as your dishes and all your pipes,” Emily said.
She then used a 30g scoop from an old tub of washing powder, and put it into the dishwasher compartment.
“This is my dishes before going in, this is my dishes coming out and these are my mugs,” Emily said, showing how sparkling clean her crockery looked when it came out.
“I’ve been experimenting for ages and this is my final recipe,” Emily, aka the Healthy Tester, wrote in the video caption.
People were quick to comment on the video, with one writing: “Got my first dishwasher last week, I’m here for this!”
“Love it,” Emily replied.
“Love this,” another added.
“Is it good for glassware too?” a third asked.
To which Emily replied: “Yes, all shiny!
“You can add a few tablespoons of dishwasher salt for areas with hard water.”
“Do you add the dishwasher salt in the mix or in the machine?” the person asked.
“I add mine to the mix,” Emily explained.
“But if you have quite bad hard water then a teaspoon in the machine would probably be fine.”
