Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has been described as a leader sent by God to transform the state. The commendation came from Abdullahi Mahmood, an APC chieftain from Garun Gabas Ward, Mallam-Madori Local Government.
According to Mahmood, the governor, popularly known as Dan Modi, embodies the qualities long desired in Jigawa’s leadership.

“Governor Umar Namadi is the ideal leader we prayed for, and God has blessed us with him. His experience as a teacher, accountant, businessman, and public servant is shaping Jigawa’s policies with transparency and accountability,” Mahmood said.
Economic progress and revenue growth
Mahmood praised the governor for positioning Jigawa as one of the fastest-growing states in internally generated revenue (IGR). In 2024, Jigawa recorded ₦62.60 billion, a feat he attributed to Namadi’s economic reforms.
He added that the governor’s performance had earned respect not only from party loyalists but also from opposition members, describing his leadership as “unique and uncommon.”
Achievements in education and governance
The governor’s “Greater Jigawa Agenda,” a 12-point plan, has reportedly impacted lives across the state. Mahmood highlighted reforms in civil service, where absenteeism was curbed, and efficiency restored.
In education, Namadi appointed six PhD holders into his cabinet, increased scholarships by 100 per cent, introduced free education for women, converted 3,000 temporary teachers to permanent staff, and recruited another 3,000 to reduce the teacher-student ratio.
Over 156 new classrooms and 221 renovated ones have been delivered, alongside new boreholes, toilets, and school furniture across the 27 local governments.
Boosting agriculture and food security
In agriculture, Mahmood noted that the governor had strengthened Jigawa’s status as a food basket.
Fertilisers were subsidised, farm inputs distributed, and 54 tractors procured for local farmers. He further revealed that 50 companies had expressed interest in Jigawa’s agribusiness and mining sectors.
Healthcare and empowerment drive
The health sector also saw significant progress. Mahmood cited the approval of funds for 281 Primary Health Centres and partnerships that provided free eye surgeries and drugs for 2,000 patients.
On empowerment, he said the governor created the Jigawa State Youth Employment and Empowerment Agency, supporting 1,000 women with ₦50,000 each, 1,500 youths with business grants, and training 240 young people in skills acquisition with start-up kits.
SMEs were also supported under the J-Cares programme with ₦100,000 each.
Concluding his remarks, Mahmood said:
“There is no doubt Governor Umar Namadi has shown total devotion and humility. He represents justice, fairness, and the dignity of his people. The people of Jigawa are grateful to God for giving us such a rare gem as our leader.”
