Jubilation As Military Kills Deadly Bandit Commander Kachalla, Others Flee

  • Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly killed another notorious bandit commander, Babangida Kachalla, a notorious bandit kingpin, in a recent operation in Kogi state
  • Kachalla, a notorious bandit kingpin, was reportedly the second-in-command to Kachala Shuaibu, leader of a gang operating within Masalaci Boka and Ofere Forest areas of Kogi state
  • This came barely a week after troops neutralised another commander, Kachalla Balla, alongside five of his gang members in a breakthrough against banditry in the state

Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army under Operation ACCORD III, in conjunction with Other Hybrid Forces (OHF), have recorded another major breakthrough in ongoing operations to rid Kogi state of banditry and other criminal activities, with the killing of Babangida Kachalla, an alleged bandit kingpin.

Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, spokesman of 12 Brigade, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday, September 13.

As reported by Vanguard, the troops revealed that the operation was carried out on September 11 following credible intelligence.

The military said:

“On 11 September 2025, following credible intelligence on the movement of bandits within Ofere Forest and Ayetoro Gbede area, the combined troops laid an ambush at a suspected bandit crossing point.

“Although initial contact was not made, the troops, while withdrawing to base, ran into an ambush staged by the criminals along their route.

“In the ensuing firefight, the gallant troops engaged the bandits with superior firepower, neutralizing one of the criminals.”

He added that the troops later exploited the area and recovered one fully loaded magazine, 31 mobile phones, a blood pressure machine, packs of Tramadol tablets, fetish charms, and ₦16,000 cash. Bloodstains at the scene indicated that several bandits escaped with gunshot wounds.

“Bloodstains observed at the scene further suggested that several other bandits escaped with gunshot wounds.

“Subsequent intelligence confirmed that among those who fled with gunshot wounds was Babangida Kachala, a notorious bandit and second-in-command to Kachala Shuaibu. The leader of a bandit group operating within Masalaci Boka and Ofere Forest areas of Kogi state. He was later confirmed dead,” the statement added.

He assured that the Nigerian Army remains determined to restore lasting peace and security in Kogi state and urged citizens to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing operations.

Zamfara terrorist kingpin Bello Turji surrenders arms

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Zamfara state enjoyed peace as notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, finally laid down his arms and surrendered.

Turji, who reached a peace agreement with some top Islamic clerics in Zamfara state, released 32 kidnapped captives.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Ado Aleru, deadly bandit kingpin, has allegedly killed seven of his fighters who were involved in a recent kidnapping operation.

Counter insurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, confirmed this and said Aleru accused his fighters of staging unauthorised kidnappings along the Gusau–Yankara highway, and drawing too much attention.
