Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), announced that he will temporarily step back from his public engagements.
This, however, came after a medical advisory from his doctor.

In a statement, the former governor of Anambra state said he had been unwell earlier in Enugu and visited a hospital, where the doctor prescribed medication and recommended a day or two of rest.
“In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend,” he said.
He added,
“I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding.”
Obi supports hospital acquisition in Aguata
Yesterday, after attending a tourism event in Enugu, Obi travelled to Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South LGA of Anambra state, which is being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Vanguard reported.
He made an initial contribution of ₦10 million to aid the diocese’s acquisition and revitalisation of the facility.
Ven. Dr. Kamtochukwu Obi, chair of the Aguata Diocesan Hospital Board, gave Obi a guided tour of the hospital and outlined the ambitious plans for its transformation.
“Healthcare remains one of the most meaningful investments we can make. Faith-based organisations have shown, time and again, that with the right support, they can deliver excellence,” Obi said.
Obi speaks on vision for a comprehensive health complex
Obi praised the diocese’s plan to turn the hospital into a comprehensive health complex, including a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology.
“This ensures future generations have access to quality care and training. Together, we can build a healthier Nigeria,” he said.
From Isulo, Obi proceeded to Owerri to attend a dinner hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of his former boss, former Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Obi slams Tinubu for going on vacation
Previously, Legit.ng reported that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, on Friday, September 5, 2025, criticised President Bola Tinubu for his frequent overseas trips, describing them as insensitive.
In his reaction, Obi insinuated that it appears Nigeria is not conducive to the president, adding that tragedies are happening in the country, whereas Tinubu chose not to visit the grieving locations.
Legit.ng had reported on Thursday, September 4, that President Tinubu departed Abuja for Europe to begin a 10-day working vacation as part of his 2025 yearly leave. Checks revealed that since his assumption, Tinubu has embarked on ‘working vacation’ trips abroad for at least five times in two years.
