Kano Teaching Hospital Begs For Electricity as Patients Who Are on Life Support Continue to Die

Kano state – The management of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has urged the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to immediately restore electricity supply to the facility.

Patients are dying, Kano hospital decries

The appeal is coming shortly after some patients on life support reportedly die due to long hours of power outages.

The management of the hospital made the advocacy in a statement signed by Hauwa Inuwa Dutse, Head of the Information Unit.

Dutse noted that the hospital expressed deep concern over the tragic loss of lives, describing it as avoidable had power been sustained.

The hospital lamented that the blackout had put vulnerable patients at grave risk, particularly those depending on life support machines.

Kano hospital says bills are regularly paid

Speaking, the management noted that AKTH consistently pays its electricity bills through its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

It added that the hospital also commits significant resources to purchase diesel for its generators in order to supplement the power supply from KEDCO.

The hospital further assured the public that steps were being taken to offset outstanding debts, but cautioned that cutting off power to a critical healthcare facility carries severe consequences for both patients and their families.

Emir of Kano: Nigerian has not been fortunate

Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, Emir of Kano, has lamented that Nigeria has not been fortunate with quality leaders for a long time. Sanusi said the country has been having “lousy” leaders for many years.

The first-class monarch spoke on Saturday, September 13, at the second Kano International Poetry Festival (KAPFEST) in Kano. According to Sanusi, genuine good governance is key to the salvaging the country from its current ‘unpleasant’ condition.
