A lady was emotional on the day she and her family moved back to Cameroon, where they originally hail from.
She documented their journey in a TikTok video, which now has over 1 million views.

According to the lady identified on TikTok as Amelie, she was raised in Chicago, and she has lived there for over 20 years.
The administration of President Donald Trump tightened immigration rules, upending the lives of many people in the country.
Amelie and her family were also affected, hence the decision to self-deport to Cameroon.
She captured the whole feeling in a sentence she used to introduce the video.
“Welcome to my journey of reclaiming my motherland, Cameroon. In the past 6 months, I’ve gone through the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows.”
Amelie said she hasn’t visited Cameroon in 11 years ‘until Trump said goodbye’ and they decided to hop on a plane.
The family has now arrived in Cameroon, and Amelie, who is a writer, said she is taking some time to heal, read and enjoy the simple things of life.
“I’m a Cameroonian-born writer with an American spirit. I moved with my family to the United States in 2003. We settled down in Chicago. My dad worked for a very big company, so he kind of dropped us kids off there and then he went ahead and was working from a different countries. His job involves a lot of travel. I moved to the United States for eduction. So, from first grade to 8th grade, I was on a student’s visa. 9th through 12th, F1 visa, college, F1 visa. That is about 17 years on a student visa.”
She noted that there is no pathway for her to become an American citizen through a student visa.
She noted that she and her family were on the Temporary Protected Status (TPS), an immigration status that allows immigrants to stay in the US because of circumstances in their country.
She said that the Trump administration cancelled that status for her country, and her family was asked to leave voluntarily.
“The Trump administration was like we are gonna give you guys two months so you can prepare to leave. My issue is not that you are telling me I need to leave. I don’t care, I will leave, because honestly, it’s worth the headaches. My thing is that they did not give us the proper time to let us know that ‘we are cancelling’. They didn’t do that.”
“I had actually ended up getting a new job, my highest paying job ever in LA. I was getting paid $60,000. That’s nothing but it was something to me.”
However, she said she is happy to be back in Cameroon and to reconnect with her roots.
