The insecurity challenges in Nigeria are a problem for everyone in the country, including members of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Since President Bola Tinubu resumed office, some APC chairmen have been kidnapped, from the ward level to the state.
Recently, some armed men reportedly abducted the wife and daughter of Alhaji Mohammed Swasun, the current chairman of the APC in Patigi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara state. On Sunday evening, September 7, the gunmen invaded the Sakpefu community in the Lade district of Patigi LGA, causing tension.

During the attack, the gunmen whisked away Hajia Fatima, the chairman’s wife, and Amina, his daughter, to an unknown destination. A source told Legit.ng that the Patigi police division is aware of the incident. In the same vein, a member of the state executive council of the party who craved anonymity confirmed the incident.
The Swasun family would be the latest victim of kidnapping in the ruling party. Aside from the Kwara APC, other chairmen of the party, both at the state and ward levels, who have been kidnapped since 2023 are listed below:
Paul Omotosho
The former Ekiti APC chairman, Omotoso, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, March 6, 2024. It was gathered that the APC state chairman has been battling with his health since he was kidnapped in July 2023.
Recall that Omotoso was abducted in July 2023 while driving in his car at the Agbado Ekiti area of the Gbonyin local government area of the state.

Nelson Adepoyigi
Adepoyigi was the abducted chairman of the ruling APC in Ose local government area (LGA) of Ondo state. He was eventually killed by his captors.
Clement Kolapo Ojo, chairman of Ose LGA, confirmed Adepoyigi’s murder via a statement issued on Sunday morning, May 18.

The APC chairman in the Ikom LGA of Cross River was kidnapped alongside his son in November 2023
According to Leadership, the assailant took the APC chairman and his son on the Ikom-Ogoja road. The scene was a few kilometres away from the Ikom council secretariat.
AbdulRauf Adeniji
The death of Rauf Adeniji, the APC’s director of administration, sent shockwaves through the party and the nation in April 2025.
Rauf Adeniji was kidnapped along with his cousin, Akinropo Adesiyan, and Adesiyan’s wife, Esther, from their residence in Kubwa, Abuja, in January 2025. He was said to have been killed in March.
Akwa Ibom APC leaders visit Tinubu
Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu has played host to Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom and Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the presidential villa on Friday, July 18.
The presidency announced the visit in a tweet, adding that Governor Eno is now the leader of the APC in Akwa Ibom state.
Governor Eno recently dumped the PDP for the APC, becoming the second of his kind within two months to months.
