Man, 59, killed in horror house fire as two men, 35, arrested over ‘murder’ after ‘accelerant used’ to start blaze – The Sun

A MAN has been killed in a house fire with two men arrested on suspicion of murder after an “accelerant” was used to start the blaze.

Zbigniew Wasiak, 59, was found dead inside the home in Fletton, Peterborough, at around 3.35am on Sunday.

A joint police and fire service investigation concluded an accelerant was used by a third party to set the property, on Wootton Avenue, ablaze.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary have since arrested two men, both aged 35, on suspicion of murder.

They remain in police custody while investigations continue.

Detective Inspector Dale Mepstead, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “We are still in the early stages of our investigation and part of the initial enquiries will be to establish why the fire was started at his home.

“We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, particularly if you live in the area of Wootton Avenue and recall seeing or hearing anything suspicious around the time of the incident.

“I understand this is likely to be concerning to the local community, but we believe it to be an isolated incident, and we have extra patrols in the area.”

Anyone with information, doorbell or dashcam footage should report online www.cambs.police.uk or call 101 and quote Operation Landform or please visit the Major Incident Public Portal.
