NiMet Issues One-Day Weather Alert, Lists States to Experience Thunderstorms, Rain

In its latest weather outlook, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), predicted that thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in some northern states in Nigeria on Monday morning, September 15.

Thunderstorms, light rains to hit northern states

According to the weather update released on Sunday, September 14, NiMet predicted Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States.

On Monday afternoon and evening, the federal government agency predicted that thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated in parts of Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, and Katsina states.

Cloudy skies, moderate rains to hit central states

In Central states, NiMet predicted that cloudy skies with sunshine intervals and chances of moderate rains are expected in parts of Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue states.

The agency also forecasted that isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected across most parts of the region on Monday afternoon and evening.

Southern states to experience moderate rains

Also, NiMet predicted that on Monday morning, cloudy atmosphere with chances of moderate rains are expected in some parts of Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

While on Monday afternoon and evening, moderate rains are anticipated across most parts of the region.

Similarly, Legit.ng predicted that 11 states in Nigeria are anticipated to experience heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding between Sunday, September 14 and Thursday, September 18.

The federal government warned that Adamawa, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Delta and Niger states and five other states with their locations, will be affected.

The Federal Ministry of Environment, confirmed this in a statement issued on Sunday and shared further details.

NiMet issues advisory

The federal government agency state that flash floods are likely in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe states and thunderstorms may cause temporary disruption of outdoor activities.

NiMet however, urged residents in flood-prone areas should remain alert.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously during rainfall due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.

In its weather outlook issued on Thursday, September 5, NiMet cautioned that on Friday morning, thunderstorms with light rains are expected to hit parts of Taraba, Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that in its latest weather outlook for Friday, August 29, NiMet predicted that thunderstorms would hit some northern states.

The FG agency alerted that thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto, Taraba, and Jigawa states, on Saturday, August 30.
