The Adamawa State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the outcome of the Ganye by-election for the State House of Assembly, held on 16 August 2025.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the seat. However, PDP officials insist that their party won across all wards in the constituency.

PDP chairman addresses rumour
Speaking to journalists, PDP State Chairman, Barrister Tahir Shehu, alleged widespread manipulation of the process.
“I am deeply grateful to God for the Ganye by-election. I am so happy because PDP won the election but the result was rigged by the opposition party, APC. The APC prior to this election had planned to rig it from all angles and areas. They started by distributing food items to the people and even purchasing votes, because they knew they cannot win the election in Ganye,” he said.
Barr. Shehu also accused senior APC figures of interference.
“Despite the intimidations, we are still challenging the matching and PDP has done its best. It’s so unfortunate that we caught the APC Zonal Chairman of the North East, Comrade Mustapha Salihu, snatching ballot boxes and BVAS machines from the ad-hoc staff. We investigated and found them hidden in his car and he was immediately handed over to the police. But surprisingly, in the night, he came again to disrupt the collation process at the ward collation centre. This act exhibited by the APC has shown that they know they can’t win the election,” he alleged.

On speculation that he might resign if PDP lost the by-election, Shehu responded:
“The rumour is true, but PDP didn’t lose the Ganye by-election and that is why I didn’t resign from being the party’s state chairman. I know that the election was rigged by APC, therefore anyone who felt PDP lost the election should religiously take an oath with the holy book and then I will write my resignation letter, stating my reason. I will not resign, because PDP won the election.”

He further reassured supporters that the PDP governor would fulfill his campaign promises to the people of Ganye, regardless of the election outcome.
“The executive governor of Adamawa State will not restrain from fulfilling his promises to the entire people of Ganye before the election. He has pledged to fulfill all the promises he made to them because he knows that it was PDP that won the election,” Shehu said.
The PDP chairman also expressed gratitude to party supporters, particularly the youth, urging them to remain committed to fairness and honesty in politics and life.
