Poverty: Churches Nationwide Get New Message From President Tinubu

Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Christian leaders across Nigeria of his administration’s readiness to partner with the Church in tackling poverty.

Tinubu represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, spoke at the opening ceremony of the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state.

“The Church remains a vital bridge for peace, unity, and moral renewal in the country,” he said.

Tinubu speaks on role of religious leaders highlighted

Tinubu further urged all Christian leaders to continue to foster interfaith harmony, Daily Trust reported.

He added that Christians should denounce violence and lead reconciliation in communities affected by violence.

He also called on churches to support civic education, environmental protection, and youth empowerment.

Tinubu likewise pointed out the steps his administration has already taken to stabilise the economy and attract investment.

FG reassures the church

Promising Nigerians of his commitment to collaboration, the president said that the federal government is committed to partnering with the Catholic Church, among other religious denominations, Daily Trust reported.

“Together, we can tackle poverty, reduce inequality and build stronger communities,” he added.

Tinub releases funds to tackle poverty

The Tinubu-led government has taken action to distribute N75,000 cash to 70 million Nigerians.

Speaking still, the President noted that the action was to help mitigate the impact of economic hardships, Vanguard reported.

The SSA to the President, Public Affairs, Hon. Aliyu Audu, revealed this innitiative on Sunday, January 19.

Tinubu pointed out that the country’s foreign reserves have grown by $7.69 billion in one year, a 23 per cent increase year-on-year.

He explained that this is due to effective monetary and fiscal policies.

Speaking still, Tinubu assured Nigerians that 2025 would bring about economic recovery and prosperity following a challenging 2024. According to Tinubu, economic growth would increase, the inflation rate would drop, and the naira-to-dollar exchange rate would stabilise, Vanguard reported.

Tinubu unveils program to train Nigerians on politics
