School Curriculum Review: Education Minister Got Fresh Nods

Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education under President Bola Tinubu, has been commended for reviewing the primary and secondary education curriculum in the country.

Earlier, before school resumptions, the minister announced the review of the curriculum for primary, Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) by the Federal Ministry of Education.

On Sunday, September 7, 2025, the ministry took to its social media handle to disclose how the new curriculum would take effect on pupils preparing to resume school, describing it as “lighter load, stronger minds Nigeria’s new school curriculum (2025/26).”

Reacting to the development, Binzak Azeez, a legal practitioner, in an exclusive interview with Legit.ng, commended the minister for the development. He noted that the move would help the children’s brains not to be defective, and the new curriculum reflected the modern-day dynamism and would help in meeting the international standard.

While commending the minister for the development, Azeez called on the federal government to review the salaries of the teachers across levels to facilitate effective learning in schools across the country.

His statement reads in part:

“The primary and secondary education determines the level of mental depth of the younger ones in their educational sojourn. Whatever knowledge is acquired at this early stage is the foundation for how information is assimilated and interpreted. Once this stage is defective, the future of such a young student is at stake.

“It is a good move by the Federal Government to review and design the old primary and secondary education curriculum to meet the modern dynamism. There is a need for transformative learning to meet the social needs and international standards.

“I am impressed with the interview of the Minister of Education, where he explained that the newly introduced subjects are pertaining to “digital literacy, robotics and artificial intelligence, new technologies and subject-based skills.”

“While I commend the review of the curriculum, I implore the Honourable Minister of Education to facilitate and extend the review to the upgrade of teachers’ remuneration and welfare packages. It can be achieved by liaising with other political stakeholders across the country. An overhaul of the curriculum without a huge investment in the teachers will not only sabotage the revised curriculum objective but also further reduce the quality of education of students.”
