SHOCKING video footage shows the moment a lorry driver ploughed into stationary traffic at 50mph, causing a horror crash that sent a car flipping onto its roof.
The driver, from the North East, was travelling in his Mercedes HGV on the A27 in Chichester, West Sussex, when he smashed into stationary vehicles, leaving three people with life-changing serious injuries.
The devastating collision happened around 4.15pm on August 8 2022.
Dashcam footage captured Kuljinder Singh, 45, from Ennis Square, Redcar, failing to brake before slamming into the back of a van, sparking a violent chain reaction.
Sussex Police released the dramatic footage following his sentencing for three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The court heard that Singh hit three other vehicles between the Fishbourne and Stockbridge roundabouts.
One victim, trapped in the overturned car, continues to suffer from life-altering injuries.
Two men in the van directly struck by the lorry also sustained lasting damage.
One victim said: “This has changed my life in every way, I now live with the lasting trauma of what happened.
“I remember waking up in the front passenger seat, I had previously been unconscious.
“The reason I awoke was because I was choking on my own blood. I turned to my work colleague. I had no idea if he was alive or dead.”
Another added: “I believe this collision was avoidable, I cannot understand what the driver of a HGV has crashed into us, causing multiple vehicles to be destroyed and causing me to sustain life-changing injuries.”
The van driver expressed his frustration: “I am frustrated that the driver has never explained personally why or how the collision occurred. The driver of that HGV has destroyed my life.”
Sergeant Mark Farrow from the Roads Policing Unit said: “It is a miracle that no one was killed on the road that day.”
Singh was sentenced to three years and ten months in prison and disqualified from driving for four years and eleven months.
