A tragic incident in Ibadan’s Oriyangi area has resulted in the death of a tenant following a dispute over rent payments, according to a statement issued by the Oyo State Police Command on 7 September.
The altercation, which occurred on 3 September 2025, reportedly escalated when the landlord’s associate allegedly struck the tenant, identified as OlaYeni.

Witnesses said the blow caused the victim to collapse at the scene. Emergency responders were said to have arrived swiftly, but OlaYeni was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Suspects Arrested as Investigation Into Ibadan Rent Dispute Death Continues
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that the suspects involved in the incident have been arrested.
Authorities stated that a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tenant’s death.
In its official communication, the Command extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public that justice would be served.
