Tinubu Told to Reshuffle Cabinet, Sack Service Chiefs as Northern Leaders Make Key Demands

Abuja, FCT – A coalition of northern political leaders has called on President Bola Tinubu to reshuffle his cabinet, overhaul the security leadership, and deepen economic reforms to tackle what it described as worsening hardship and insecurity in the country.

The Northern Ethnic National Forum (NENF), a socio-political coalition of leaders from the 19 northern states, said Nigeria was facing “multi-dimensional crises” that required urgent action.

Why Tinubu should reshuffle cabinet

The NENF stated that several ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet were underperforming and lacked the necessary political capital to drive his “Renewed Hope” agenda.

“Many current ministers have demonstrated a profound inability to translate policy into tangible results,” the Forum said in a statement signed by its convener, Dr. Dominic Alancha.

It urged Tinubu to dissolve and reconstitute his cabinet, appointing individuals with “proven integrity, exceptional capability, and significant political influence.”

Tinubu told to sack service chiefs

On insecurity, the Forum said violence in the north had reached catastrophic levels, with bandits and armed groups killing, kidnapping and displacing people almost daily.

It demanded the immediate dismissal of all service chiefs, accusing them of failing to halt attacks despite heavy funding.

The Forum also urged President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on security in the entire northern region, stressing that the move should focus on coordinated operations to dismantle criminal networks.

Tinubu gets commendation for scrapping fuel subsidies

Meanwhile, the group commended President Tinubu for scrapping fuel subsidies and harmonising foreign exchange rates. However, it said implementation had caused severe hardship.

It urged the government to expand palliative measures, invest in agriculture and manufacturing, and ensure that reforms deliver concrete improvements in power, transport and infrastructure.

The coalition also urged President Tinubu to demonstrate solidarity with Nigerians who are bearing the brunt of economic and security crises.

“Finally, Mr. President, the Nigerian people are suffering. The economic squeeze, the insecurity, and the social anxiety have gone far beyond rhetoric. The people feel a profound disconnect between their daily realities and the assurances from your Abuja office,” the group said.

“We call on you, Mr. President, to personally and visibly identify with the pains of Nigerians.

“This requires more than speeches; it demands a demonstrable austerity from the government.

“A clear show that the leadership is also feeling the pinch and are as well sacrificing alongside the citizens. A government that shares in the burden of its people inspires unity and resilience in the face of adversity.”
