Tragedy As Mob Kills Woman Mistaken for Kidnapper in APC-Controlled State

• A tragedy has occurred in Kwara state over alleged jungle justice, as a woman was attacked by a mob on Thursday morning in Ilorin, following claims that she was a kidnapper
• The woman, suspected to be destitute, was seen loitering in the community when residents, acting on misinformation, accused her of being a child kidnapper and reportedly killed her

Ilorin, Kwara state – On Wednesday, August 20, a woman mistaken for a kidnapper was reportedly killed by an irate mob at the popular Ipata market area in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

As reported by The Tribune Online, the incident occurred 9:00 am, when the woman, who was later discovered to be a destitute, was seen wandering around the community.

The police public relations officer (PPRO), Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, August 21, and described it as unfortunate.

‎”Information received that a woman, suspected to be destitute, was sighted wandering around the community; misinformed members of the public wrongly suspected her to be a kidnapper. In the ensuing circumstances, an irate mob descended on the woman, inflicting serious bodily harm.”

Woman declared dead in hospital – Police‎

Toun Ejire-Adeyemi explained that upon swift mobilization, police patrol teams raced to the scene, rescued the victim and rushed her to the General Hospital, Ilorin, for urgent medical attention.

He noted that regrettably, the attending doctor confirmed her dead as a result of injuries sustained.

The statement added that her remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary, while discreet investigation has commenced.‎

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that the police commenced an investigation into a case of alleged jungle justice that led to the death of a man, Peter, and left another victim, Dokagk Danladi, severely injured.

The incident occurred in the Lushi area on April 9, when a mob targeted the two men, accusing them of stealing a dog.

Bauchi state police commissioner, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
