It was Boniface’s first competitive game for Bremen after joining on deadline day, following a failed transfer to AC Milan.
If there were any doubts about whether the Super Eagles forward would settle quickly, he answered them with an instant impact.
According to All Nigeria Soccer, the 23-year-old replaced Romano Schmid in the 75th minute and wasted no time linking up with fellow substitute Justin Njinmah.
Their combination sealed the victory as Njinmah coolly slotted home Bremen’s fourth goal after Boniface’s clever assist.
Werder Bremen take control early
Werder Bremen’s game plan clicked from the start as Samuel Mbangula opened the scoring with a powerful strike in the first half, followed by Jens Stage’s powerful effort that doubled the lead before the break.

Bremen stayed on the front foot, winning a penalty in the 74th minute after Mbangula was brought down in the box. Schmid stepped up to make it 3-0, giving Ole Werner’s men breathing space.
Then came Boniface’s moment as he was introduced late, and showed sharp movement, quick thinking, and an immediate understanding with Njinmah to cap off a perfect day for Bremen.
Felix Agu leads the backline
Super Eagles defender Felix Agu also had a standout game.
Agu was named in the starting XI, he played all 90 minutes and helped Bremen secure their first clean sheet of the season after conceding seven goals in their opening two matches.
According to Bundesliga data, Agu was the fastest player on the pitch, clocking a top speed of 34.15 km/h. His defensive solidity and overlapping runs frustrated Gladbach’s attack and gave Bremen confidence to press forward.
The result lifted Bremen to ninth in the Bundesliga table with four points from their opening three fixtures.
For Boniface, this performance was more than just a debut, it was a statement.
After being overlooked by AC Milan, he showed that he can deliver on the big stage and could be a key figure for Bremen as the season unfolds.
