Remi Aluko: I was once considered using juju to boost my career

Remi Aluko, the Nigerian Fuji singer, has revealed that he once considered using supernatural means (juju) to boost his career, but a personal event made him change his mind.

In a recent chat on Oyinmomo TV, Aluko disclosed that during his struggling days as a Fuji artiste, someone took him to a traditional healer.

He said after he paid the man, he was instructed to return in three weeks to receive a charm specifically meant to be used on women.

Accoridng to him, however, within that waiting period, his wife gave birth to a baby girl. That, he said, was the turning point.

The ‘One Time’ singer explained that becoming a father to a daughter made him realise the potential consequences of his actions. He said he feared that any harm he caused to others could eventually come back to hurt his own family.

Aluko said he never went back to the fetish priest, even though he had already paid him.

“When I was searching for a name in the industry. Someone took me somewhere. The person told me I am someone who has glory. He said what he would give me should be used on women,” he said.

“And at that time I had impregnated someone. I wanted to test my sperm if it was going to work, and it did.

“What was funny was that I did not know when my wife would give birth, but I knew it was close. The person who promised to give me the charm said I should come back after three weeks to collect it.

“Between those three weeks was when I heard my wife had given birth. I was told she gave birth to a female. The only thing that came to my mind was what the man asked me to come and collect and use it on women.

“That was the time I knew God can reward whatever anyone does. From then on, I was very scared. I never visited the man again.

“We often deceive ourselves. We spend money to promote ourselves on the wrong side. Sometimes we do not know what to do at the right time.”

Last month, Saheed Osupa, another Fuji singer, revealed that he uses “juju” (voodoo) to achieve success.

The revelation comes just weeks after Saheed Osupa, another Fuji singer, openly admitted to using juju to achieve success in the music industry.
