Sir Idris Elba knighted by King Charles

Sir Idris Elba, the Hollywood star, has officially received a British knighthood from King Charles III in recognition of his longstanding charitable work with young people.

The actor was first named in the king’s New Year honours list in December 2025, and on Tuesday, the investiture ceremony was held at Windsor Castle. Elba now holds the title of Sir Idris.

The annual honours list celebrates outstanding achievements from individuals across the United Kingdom and beyond.

This year’s recipients were recognised for their contributions to sports, humanitarian services, education, drama, and the justice system.

In an Instagram post, the royal family announced the honourees and extended their congratulations.

Elba also shared a lighthearted video of himself holding an Arsenal jersey with the inscription: “Sir Elba.”

“Congratulations to everyone who received honours at today’s Investiture ceremonies, hosted by The King at Windsor Castle,” the post reads.

“Amongst recipients were… Sir @IdrisElba for services to young people. @Torvilland Deanofficial for services to ice skating and voluntary service.

“Dame @meera.syal for services to literature, drama and charity. A Betty Brown OBE for services to justice. @OfficialPaulChuckle BE for charitable service.”

Other notable honourees include Olympic champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean who were knighted for their services to ice skating and voluntary work.

The duo won Olympic gold at the 1984 Winter Games for their iconic Bolero performance.
