Nasboi, the Nigerian skit maker, has come under intense criticism following a social media post that many users labelled as “irresponsible”.
The entertainer, who rose to fame through comedy skits before crossing into music, recently took to X to voice his frustration over Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.
His outburst was triggered by the abduction of over 40 people in Oyo state, an incident that has left many Nigerians rattled.
In a post that has since been deleted, Nasboi shared a video clip showing armed men dressed in desert camouflage, riding motorcycles, and firing guns recklessly into the air.
He accompanied the footage with a direct tag to President Bola Tinubu’s official X account.
While the intent appeared to be raising alarm over the state of the nation, the response was far from supportive.
A wave of X users quickly turned on the skit maker, accusing him of amplifying fear rather than fostering constructive dialogue.
Some argued that he lacked a proper grasp of the country’s security realities, while others alleged that he had shared misleading or outdated material.
I have a theory: this guy called Nasboi wants the government to invite him for questioning. Then other celebrities will blame the government for arresting him and saying they are trying to silence celebrities who speak up against insecurities, instead of focusing on fighting… https://t.co/aZLZJfH0RZ

Nasboi will take videos of terrorist activities from Benin Republic & claim they happened in Nigeria. He will take pictures from events that happened years ago & claim they just happened. Nothing is wrong with speaking out, but what you’re doing now is spreading fake news.

Sometimes when you have mixed parenting the outcome seems to cause cognitive dissonance. Since Nasboi had contradicted his parenting, I have stopped listening to him, infact I have cancelled him in my conscience. https://t.co/3LyRDdxvo3

Nasboi…. Take it easy. Your advocacy is notable but very pedestrian. With your clout, you can engage international Human Rights bodies and travel globally to drive home the message. SM has its limitations and won’t yield the outcome. R u ready for a real revolution?

Nasboi should go and sit down somewhere jhor. He should go and think of the next skit to make. The President should give an executive order? The ones he has been doing before are parliamentary orders abi? https://t.co/LRsdYzQFee

Also reacting, Olusegun Dada, the president’s special adviser on social media, accused Nasboi of intentionally spreading panic through falsehood.
Dada clarified that the video Nasboi shared had been clearly labelled elsewhere as showing Beninese terrorists, not Nigerian ones. He described the skit maker’s actions as “the highest form of irresponsibility”.
“You cannot continue to intentionally use your page to spread fear @iamnasboi for whatever reason you might think you have,” he wrote.
“The video you posted was clearly quoted from a page that says these are Beninese terrorists. This means the footage is from Benin Republic and has nothing to do with Nigeria.
“We have our challenges but you using your wide reach to spread fear with a fake footage is the highest form of irresponsibility. You can do better!”

Nasboi responded directly to the presidential aide, doubling down on his position. He argued that the country is already living in fear, and that his intention was merely to raise awareness and not to manufacture panic.
“You say we’re spreading fear. Is there no fear in the land already?” he wrote.
“I can barely sleep. I’m traumatized. Aren’t we all? Raising awareness is now being twisted into “spreading fear” simply because some people are desperate to silence anyone who speaks up.”
