Tems, the award-winning Nigerian songstress, has put out the visuals for her hit single ‘What You Need’.
The song is the sixth track off ‘Love Is A Kingdom’, the singer’s third extended play (EP).
The music video is captured in a striking black-and-white cinematic style. It opens with Tems standing in what looks like a dark room, rain falling around her as she holds herself.
The scene then shifts to her attempting to drag a heavy stone wall before she passionately delivers the song’s lyrics.
“Okay now, sometimes/ You find yourself in two ways/ Yeah, yeah, yeah, sometimes/ Your love, it feels divided/ Yeah, mm/ And my answer, my answer is to pull out,” she sings.
“Your love is like an endless sea/ It won’t lead me to anywhere/ But I’m so confused/ To all the pain and suffering/ You still wanna stay with me/ I’m tired of this crisis/ ‘Cause I feel like I’m in the dark/ I’m not what you need,” she sings.
Tems rose to fame in 2020, courtesy of her collaboration with Wizkid on the song ‘Essence’ and has cemented her status as one of Nigeria’s leading singers.
In 2023, she earned her first Grammy award for her contribution to ‘Wait For U’, the 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.
Tems clinched her second at the 2025 Grammy Awards for the ‘Best African Performance’ category.
In July 2025, she also became the first African artiste to perform at the FIFA Club World Cup final.
